Missions: Varulkarie

Flights of the Varulkarie will be over a number of years, with the new design of Varulkarie dealing with the most major areas of space debrris very quickly.

The type will be deployed and scour a large area of space for many orbits to clear that orbital altitude. The dimensions of Varulkaries deflectors mean it can clear a 100 by 50 metre area over an orbital altitude, so will move through the height on slightly different orbits pushing debris back to Earth.

By using ten Varulkaries this area of coverage can be covered within a reasonable time-frame given the magnitude of the problem of litter and junk in space.

Varulkaries will enable disabled or obsolete or unused satellites to be removed at low cost and high levels of safety. With any space-docking procedure there is inherrent risk of collision and casualty. Varulkaries provide an unmanned aerospacecraft to do this work, negating any danger of the task otherwise there during manned missions.

When removing satellites and other large pieces of debris Varulkarie can provide an exact target for re-entry. Presently even the most advanced teams (external to Briggs) cannot predict where satellites - some with low risk nuclear payloads - will land.
